A great weekend. No Rain (must have been the only place in the UK). Shows you that Croydon is good for something!!!
Four of the Cubs attained their Athletes Activity Badge ie:- Joel, Daniel, Livio & Cassius. They had to gain a minimum of eight points from 8 sporting activities. We did 5 No. at camp.

JOEL NOAH
Throwing a cricket ball from 18m to 25m ie:- 18 to 22m grtting you one point, 22 to 25m getting you two points & over 25m getting you three points.
Sprinting over 50m in a given time ie:- 9 sec 3 points 10 sec 2 points & 11 sec 1 point.
50m x Skipping. under 12 seconds gets you three points. 13 sec 2 points, 14 sec 1 point.

Sargent Jump. over 35cm 3 points, between 30 & 35cm 2 points & between 25 & 30cm 1 point. (this is done by measuring the person with their arms fully stretched above them.

TONY DANIEL
For those that did not get 8 points there is still the Cubs Sports Day coming up on Saturday afternoon, the 25th June, at Regents Park running track.
The events we didn't do are High jump, Long Jump & 1000m run.
For some of them they get their 1st Camping Overnight Badge, some have already got this and are working towards their next Overnight Badge which is for 5 nights away.
They also had a brief introduction to Camp Skills (Put on by the District Explorers, led by George). They learnt how to chop wood with a hand axe & how to be safe with one. Also, how to use a bow saw. They learnt the importance of having a good knife (not just for show). Also different ways to light a fire & how to be prepared to be able to light a fire very quickly.

CASSIUS ABEL HARRY EDWARD
The District Camp Fire went down well with Mike on my Grandads old harmonica (he can actually play it as well as the spoons). The new Paella dish came in handy especially for the Yes/No game ie:- Saturday night at the London Palladiums - Yes/No interlude. The Cubs loved it. The dish makes a great gong.
Our new dining shelter/marquee was a great success, especially with our new generator & fantastic electric lighting (talk about modern camping, we are modern camping!!!!).
Having not put up an icelandic/patrol tent in a good 25 years, its amazing how it all comes back to you. Goes down a hell of a lot quicker than it goes up.
No matter what you say to the Cubs/Scouts & some adults. they still walk between the tents & fall over the ropes & pegs.
My Congrats. to Mike for putting on some great meals. The Pasta went down a treat. The Cubs were full up & content (a hard thing to achieve with kids). Mike did manage to corner the entire market for Tomato's. I believe we will be selling them back into the market place for the next couple of months!!!!
Baked Beanz! who would have thought kids don't like baked beanz (even if they were only a pound for 4 cans, I'll be eating beans for the next few months, no doubt with tomato's).

ABIGAIL XAVIER LIVIO
We were planning a lovely Curry with Popadums & some mint type sauce Derek had decided the Kids would like (Funny he never had kids?). However, due to a Derek electrical fault ie:- flourescent explosion. The Curry was cancelled. I'm sure those Popadums will be used soon enough?
Of Course my thanks go to Derek James & Tom Gregory for helping out over the weekend, as well as Mike Kilcooley. Hopefully it was a good laugh for us as well as fun for the Cubs (Thats what Scout camping is all about!!!!).
Lets hope we can get Scouts & Cubs under canvas next year & get our Beavers coming down to camp ie:- I want a 8th Scout Group "The Diehards" CAMP with Leaders & Helpers all having fun!!!!.
Regards.
Cliff. (Cub Leader)
